I’ll check that concert out. I’m a big fan of the Irvine/Brady collaborations. Brady’s ‘Arthur McBride’ is one of my all-time favourite performances.

"Arthur McBride" is amazing (and is at least somewhat well known outside of folky circles). You might enjoy this short (5min) video that talks about how Paul Brady started singing it -- it's remarkable that he learned the song from an American songbook while touring in America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpgU6ly5GlY

I sense another YT rabbit hole opening up.

Exactly.

I’m only a step or two into the rabbit hole myself and that’s enough to be impressed with what’s available.

I really like this Jolene/Sylvie comparison. And that track by Irvine & co is wonderful. I’m fascinated to see him playing a guitarra portuguesa, which I understand he did quite a bit during the Planxty era.

Thanks!

I don’t know that whole Planxty era well. Andy Irvine/Paul Brady was one of the first CDs that I got, but it’s taken me a long time to explore some of those connections — and what an amazing collection of musicians (including Christy Moore as well who fantastic).

It’s amazing how much of that is available on youtube. I ended up watching the whole concert and one of the other songs that I would definitely recommend is the performance of “The Plains Of Kildare” — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJNcEgTTCXY
